Stormy was a spur of the moment decision, which is how she got her name “Sudden Storm”. We’d been discussing getting another ridgeback, and gave Robin Nicholson (http://songbirdridgebacks.com/) a call. It was six months between the time we’d initially contacted Robin and getting to bring Surprise home, and we expected the same. She said that she actually had three puppies ready to go, so we drove up to see them. Surprise was ecstatic to see Robin again, and we began the process of trying to pick a puppy. One particularly pretty girl had unexpectedly been brought back, and we settled on her. Robin told us “Well, that’s a show girl. If you want her, you have to show her.” We responded that we’d never done that before, but we’d give it a shot.
Jennifer took her to handling classes, and they both learned. Storm took to the ring naturally, but we didn’t win anything until she was just over a year old. She then won a ridgeback specialty in Canada, beating 25 other dogs, and that put her halfway to her championship there. She very quickly started winning and achieved her Canadian Grand Championship by taking best of breed over her sire, the very accomplished Dante – http://www.ridgebacks.ca/coso_family_dante.html. Storm continued on to get her US grand champion award and continued to Bronze Grand Champion.
She’s a sweet girl, who is happy to go running down trails with horses, roughhouses with the rest of the pack, and loves to cuddle with anyone available.
